What you will do
As a Junior Embedded Software Engineer you work in close collaboration with engineers and researchers from different disciplines (electronics, algorithms, biomedical, and sensors). You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and test of embedded software for innovative prototype systems by combining cutting-edge research results with state-of-the-art components. You will support the team to fulfil the software needs and contribute to our research in smart implantables, artificial organs and neuro-stimulations domains.

In this position we need you to be part of our interdisciplinary team to:

 

  • Develop embedded software for demonstrators and prototypes based on imec hardware and off-the-shelf sensors, microcontrollers, and radios, while interfacing to PC's, smartphones, and other portable devices.
  • Program in C/C++ and/or Python.
  • Perform hardware and software testing and troubleshooting, including board bring-up and adaptation of existing platforms into new specifications.
  • Develop test cases and test frameworks, including tooling and scripting to support testing.
  • Document your design and implementation; according to medical device software life cycle processes when needed.
  • Interact with internal users (understand their needs) and provide support during field trials and research studies.

Who you are

  • MSc degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, or in a similar field.
  • Fresh graduate or a young professional with 0-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Affinity with applied research in the domains of Health and Wireless sensing.
  • Experience with programming languages C/C++ and Python is a must.
  • A working knowledge of RTOS (Zephyr), MATLAB and Signal Processing is a plus.
  • RF knowledge is a plus.
  • Knowledge/understanding of:
    • µControllers and firmware development. (ARM Cortex, STM32 series);
    • Industry standard interface protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, BLE, WiFi, Lora);
    • Version control systems (Git) and Continuous Integration;
    • Agile way-of-working (Scrum).
  • Ability to think and act on System level, which means conceptualizing, organizing, and seeing the bigger picture.
  • Work together with the HW teams, meaning you should be able to read schematics and use electronic lab equipment like Logic Analyzers and Oscilloscopes.
  • Hands-on and result driven team player, which means taking initiatives and responsibilities, thinking pro-actively, having a flexible and problem solving attitude are attributes which define yourself.
  • You see changes as an opportunity to learn and grow and you can deal with ambiguity.
  • Able to communicate with colleagues outside your field of expertise and you are interested in acquiring new skills and competences.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken). Dutch language is a plus.
