Matlab Interface to Wireless Sensor Networks
At imec, System Integration
Scope of the project
The scope of the project is the development of a software interface to access wireless sensor nodes in the Matlab programming environment. The rapid development of these sensor nodes calls for module based design, where backwards compatibility and future extension are key.
Description of the project
The goal of the project is to modify and improve an existing Matlab interface to wireless sensor networks on the one hand, and signal processing demonstrators on the other hand.
Holst Centre is a R&D Institute that performs research on autonomous wireless transducer solutions. One of the challenges in using these prototypes is to provide useful means to apply them in various application environments. In some cases for instance, the wireless sensor nodes are to be combined with existing tools and algorithms that make up the application. The existing tools and algorithms are typically written in the Matlab programming environment.
An additional challenge is the dynamic nature of prototype development, which comes with regular software and hardware updates, calling for compatibility over time.
The question is thus: how to develop a generic interface to wireless sensor network prototypes, working under Matlab, which is easy to use, flexible and also future-proof? To tackle this, a framework was set up, based on the Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern and the new object-oriented programming capabilities of Matlab. However, this framework requires more work to fulfil all of our requirements.
To bring the existing interface to a next level, we are looking for a computer science student, who is interested in an internship at Holst Centre. Experience with Matlab and MVC is required, background in signal processing a plus.
Requirement
This project shall include an internship project. It will require the presence of the student at the Holst Centre, Eindhoven, the Netherlands, for 6 months.
The student should have knowledge and/or interest in:
The student should also have good team-work and English communication skills.
